Record numbers at Mauri Ora meeting
There were 2O people in attendance at last night’s Onehunga support meeting for fathers.
The average number is around 10, but a text suggestion from support worker Brendon Smith to a few long term members of the group suggesting that they update us on their situation meant that the room was full. We even had to borrow extra chairs from one of the other rooms in the community centre.
There were several rounds of applause when dads reported improved relationships with their children, having moved to unsupervised access for example.
While some fathers were needing support with teenagers, others have babies only a few months old. A couple of guys recommended the Father & Child parenting correspondence course to the new dads, and said they had learned a lot of useful information.
At least two men had come at the suggestion of workmates who have attended previously, and found the group valuable.
