In light of recent, related events, Father and Child Trust are pleased to announce that their Fathers’ Mauri Ora Circle meetings start again tomorrow evening in Onehunga. Since 2009, every Wednesday 7-9pm, fathers have been welcome to gather together and share issues.

Topics can vary but fathers can learn from each other and aim to strengthen their parenting knowledge and offload any troubling or tricky issues. Dads often comment, they wish they had found the group earlier, they realise that their situation is not as bad as others and/or that they are not alone. Often Father and Child can refer further support or legal help.

Coffee and cookies are provided, parking is behind the Onehunga Community Centre.

Father and Child Trust offer Information and Support for All Dads. Resources include New Dads Magazines, Why Dads Booklets and “In Your Hands’ DVDS from Greatfathers.org.nz

Support includes telephone, personal, group – personal, family, parenting or basic legal support, plus referrals to teen dad groups, other region or more specific help.

The work Father and Child Trust undertake goes largely unrecognised and underfunded.
Father and Child Trust currently rely wholly on charities for funding purposes. This restricts their capacity to keep up with existing demand, let alone expand or serve the greater community. Demand is particularly high for crisis level dads with complex, high risk issues that require legal, child safety, personal or family support.
